Just a swamp rat taking adventures where others can't go thanks to Gator Tail Outboards of Loreauville, Louisiana.
Hull is 2023 custom built 20' x 48" crawfish skiff designed and built in Pierre Part, Louisiana with 2024 40HP Gator Tail XD Pro.
Also sometimes I play music, but that's beside the point.

GoDevilGod and his buddy head wayyyy upstream on the Amite River, crossing a total of 3 Parishes and over 30 miles North - one way. Round trip total was 61.8 miles and used less than 13 gallons of gas. What size is your boat?
Question for ya. I'm new to longtail motors and just got a Swamp Runner and a 670 Predator engine. It's going on a 14ft fiberglass boat until fall time when I plan on getting a 14'48 Jon boat. I have found that the long tail and motor have some serious weight as a setup. Have you had any issues with the transom? My transom is 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood with about 6 layers of mat that was epoxied in. I also have 2 2x6 boards cut at 45 degree angles and secured to the floor and transom as a brace.
Oh man that's more than enough. The long tails seem like a lot because they're such work out to run and drive, but compared to typical outboard 4 strokes and surface drives - they're a breeze on transoms. Especially the setup you described - a predator motor with a swamp runner kit (all aluminum) as opposed to a true GoDevil long tail (galvanized steel) will sit and operate just fine on the fiberglass transom, as well as the 14'x48" aluminum transom. Have fun with it and be safe! Always wear a life vest and ALWAYS wear your kill switch.

Open containers are allowed in Louisiana, so long as you don't blow over .08, a boat operator is allowed to drive and drive. It's so cool, love it here.

@@robertcampbell3900 No, it's legal for a boat operator to drink while operating. If you get stopped and blow over a .08 - then you're in trouble. However, if you don't, it's 100% legal to have an open container in your hand while operating a vessel in Louisiana. Been on the water my whole life, have many friends at LDWF, they have repeatedly confirmed this to my amusement.

How does your boat not rust?
It’s aluminum, which doesn’t rust like ferrous (iron) metals. It can still corrode but it’s a much slower process. Hope that helps 🙂
It's 6061 Aluminum... takes decades to rust if washed regularly. No sacrificial tab needed 👍👍

What kind of speeds are you seeing with that xd pro ?
32mph with 2 men and simple gear. Loaded down with 2 men and catch anywhere from 25 to 28. It's got the lower gear reduction and high brake reverse clutch so it handles load and gets on plane with a load better than any surface drive I've ever run.
Is the GTR better than the go devil ?
Yes
Been considering both for an all around swamp rig. I understand you aren’t a salesman lol but would you recommend the go devil over the GTR for heavy everyday use?
@@BillyBoucher-ql3pw Depends on your use case, hull, etc. Both have their benefits and I've been a customer for each over the years. I have the XD Pro, which is rated for 1000 hours a year.
@@GoDevilGod that’s badass man. I’m putting mine on a custom crawfish skiff very similar to yours. I don’t need speed as much as I need load carrying ability and reliability. But that’s a conversation for me and the dealer. I appreciate your input a ton and I’ll try to make a RUclips short of it running down bayou teche when she’s done 🤣

eh, maybe 25mph. It's a GD longtail so wasn't great for speed just the ability to go wherever we felt like.

What happens when you are in the middle of the swamp and your motor quits?
Depends, if the boat is floating one could just paddle out. However if one is sitting on the bottom it's time to get out and push until it floats again. I've been stranded a few times, longest stretch was 15 hours. Stay safe on the water!

About how much fuel do you use on an outing like this - or would you carry for day out roughly? Good footage / camera work!
Thank you! And I use a 6 gal. fuel cell with a spare 1 gal. gas can just in case but I've never used more than 3 gallons on one trip. Those little v-twins get good mpg lol!

@@jacklowe3788 No electric fuel pump, just a primer bulb and the fuel pump that's in the motor. But have fun with the BeaverTail build, that 16hp Vanguard will take you where you need to go for sure!

@@barrylandry4447 I'll assume it's carbureted - best things to do would be adjust the throttle cable to be tighter, adjust the throttle body, an exhaust, maybe bigger jets for the carb or a bigger carb in general. Other that that you can take down the block and put a cam and lifters and all that in. But I think that would be overkill for a 16hp. Hope that helps and I hope your son stays safe and has fun on the water.

@@barrylandry4447 grab bars are very handy and for a safety thing also, I see a lot of guys run em without grab bars, if you get in a lot of trash, logs and stumps, it will throw you, Nice to have something to hold onto
